How do I add captions to my video?
Open Captioneer and tap the video picker to select a clip from your photo library. Captioneer transcribes the audio automatically and generates captions in the preview. Choose a style, fix any words you need to, then tap Export to render the final video.
What caption styles are available?
Eight styles — Pop (highlights one word at a time as it's spoken), Karaoke (gradient pill that fills in sing-along style), Clean Subtitle, Bold Box, Minimal, Neon Glow, Cute Pastel, and Impact Red — each with its own font, size, color, and background customization on top. Switch between them anytime, the preview updates live.
Can Captioneer add a translated caption line?
Yes. Turn on Bilingual Captions and pick a target language — Captioneer adds a second, translated caption line, styled independently from the first. Translation happens on-device too, using Apple's built-in translation, so the same privacy guarantee applies: nothing is ever uploaded.
The transcript got a word wrong — can I fix it?
Yes. Speech recognition isn't perfect, especially with background noise or unusual names. Tap any word in the transcript to edit it directly; the caption preview and burned-in export both reflect your correction.
Do I need an internet connection to use Captioneer?
No. Import, transcription, styling, editing, and export all run entirely on your iPhone, with no server involved at any step — Captioneer works fine in Airplane Mode, as long as your device already has the on-device speech model for the language you pick and the video isn't only stored in iCloud. Is Captioneer really free? Is there a watermark?
Yes, really free — every caption style and feature, no watermark on exports. No in-app purchases, no ads.
Is there a subscription?
No. Captioneer has no subscription, no in-app purchases, and no recurring charges of any kind.
What video formats and lengths are supported?
Captioneer supports short video clips in any format your iPhone can play from the Photos library — MP4, MOV, and most common formats recorded by iOS or imported from other apps. The exported video is always an MP4, portrait or landscape.
Which languages does Captioneer support?
Any language supported by Apple's Speech framework on your device, including English and Cantonese/Traditional Chinese.
Does Captioneer upload my videos anywhere?
No, never — not your video, not your audio. Everything is imported, transcribed, edited, and exported entirely on your device, with no server involved at any step. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
