Video blur questions

How do I blur faces in a video on iPhone?

Use an app that finds and follows the faces for you. Photos on iPhone can trim, crop, adjust and filter a video, but it has no tool that hides a face. Blurfold looks for every face in your video on your iPhone, follows each one through the clip and covers it, then shows you the moments it is least sure about before you export. Covering faces is free, with no watermark.

What to know

  • Photos on iPhone edits a video’s length, light, colour and framing. It has no tool to blur or cover a chosen part of the picture.
  • A face has to stay covered in every frame. A single uncovered frame can be enough to recognise someone, so check the whole clip before you share it.
  • Faces are hardest to follow when people walk in front of each other, turn away or move fast.
  • Covering faces makes a new copy of the video. The original stays in your library unchanged.

How to do it with Blurfold

  1. Open Blurfold and pick a video. Faces are found and covered on your iPhone, and the video is not uploaded.
  2. Open Details to see the coverage bar: green means a face was found there, and orange means a short gap was bridged and is worth a look.
  3. To leave one person visible, tap their face. To cover something that was missed, tap Add a cover and drag it into place.
  4. Tap Export to Photos. When there are moments to check, the button says Review moments and export, and Blurfold lists them under Before you export first. The video is saved to the Blurfold album.

Can I choose blur or mosaic?

Yes. Under Style, choose Mosaic, Blur or Block. A block can be black, white or violet.

What happens when someone turns away?

Short gaps are bridged so the cover stays on, and they show orange on the coverage bar. Turn on Cover people whose face was missed to cover the whole person while their face cannot be found.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Faces are found and covered on your iPhone. A video leaves your iPhone only if you choose to make a share link, and then only the blurred copy.
