Passport and visa photo questions
What size is a UK passport photo in pixels?
For an online application, a UK passport photo must be at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, with a file size of at least 50 KB and no more than 10 MB. gov.uk sets a minimum, not a maximum, so a full-size phone photo is fine if the file is under 10 MB. For a paper application, each printed photo is 45 mm high and 35 mm wide, with your head 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown.
What the official page says
- Digital, for an online application: at least 600 × 750 pixels, at least 50 KB and no more than 10 MB, in colour.
- Digital: include your head, shoulders and upper body, and do not crop the photo; the passport service crops it.
- Printed, for a paper form: 2 identical photos, 45 mm high and 35 mm wide, not cut down from a larger picture.
- Printed: your head from crown to chin between 29 mm and 34 mm, against a plain cream or light grey background.
- Both: taken in the last month, and not altered by computer software.

- Upload the saved photo in the online application. Complyshot does not make printed UK photos; for a paper form, use a photo booth or shop.

What is 35 × 45 mm in inches?
About 1 3/8 × 1 3/4 inches. That is the printed size for a paper form; an online application uses pixels instead.
Should I resize or crop my photo to 600 × 750?
No. gov.uk asks you not to crop a photo from your own device, because the passport service does it. 600 × 750 pixels is the minimum, not a target.
Is a UK passport photo the same size as an Irish one?
Not online: an Irish online application needs at least 715 × 951 pixels, in JPEG, no larger than 9 MB. Printed, both start at 35 × 45 mm, and Ireland allows up to 38 × 50 mm.
