How do I take a compliant passport/visa photo?
Open Complyshot, pick your document type from the menu, and line your face up in the on-screen guide. Once you take the photo, Complyshot automatically checks it against the official requirements for your document type — head height, eye position, background, focus, lighting, and eyes-open — and shows a plain-language pass/fail for each one.
Which document types are supported?
US Passport, US Visa/DV Lottery, UK Passport and Ireland Passport (online applications), China Visa (online application), Australia Passport and Schengen Visa (print sheets). Canada Passport is listed with an explanation: Canada only accepts photos taken by a commercial photographer.
Some rules aren't checked automatically — why?
A few rules (glasses, head coverings, certain accessories) need a human judgment call that Complyshot can't reliably automate on-device. For those, Complyshot shows you the specific official rule and a plain self-check question instead of pretending to have checked it — see the "Double-check yourself" section on your results screen.
My photo failed a check — what do I do?
The result screen lists what to change for each failed rule. Tap Retake photo and follow the advice under the guide.
Does Complyshot guarantee my photo will be accepted?
No. Complyshot isn't affiliated with any government and can't guarantee acceptance — it checks your photo against each country's own published requirements as we've researched and encoded them, but always confirm with the official source before you submit. Each result screen links to the official page it was checked against.
Does Complyshot upload my photo anywhere?
Not for capture, checks or export: those run on your iPhone. Anonymous usage counts sent to an analytics service contain no photo. If you deliberately attach an image to feedback and tap Send Feedback, that image is sent to us. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How much does Complyshot cost?
Checking is free. Saving the finished photo is a one-time in-app purchase that covers every document and your family through Family Sharing. No subscription, no ads, no watermark on the saved photo. If you installed before version 1.1, saving stays free. If an official service rejects a photo Complyshot passed, retake it free, or ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com and tell us why.
How do I restore my purchase?
Tap the ⓘ button to open Sources and choose Restore Purchases, or tap Restore Purchases on the offer.
Do I need an internet connection to use Complyshot?
No for capture, compliance checks, cropping and export — those run entirely on your iPhone. Anonymous usage counts are sent when a network is available, and feedback is sent only if you choose to send it.
How do I send feedback?
Open Send Feedback in Complyshot. Email address and message are required; you can attach up to five optional images. App version, iOS version, device model and language are always included. Location and other photo details are removed from images on your iPhone first.
