How do I take a compliant passport/visa photo?
Open Complyshot, pick your document type from the menu, and line your face up in the on-screen guide. Once you take the photo, Complyshot automatically checks it against the official requirements for your document type — head height, eye position, background, focus, lighting, and eyes-open — and shows a plain-language pass/fail for each one.
Which document types are supported?
US Passport, US Visa/DV Lottery, UK Passport, Canada Passport, Australia Passport, and Schengen Visa.
Some rules aren't checked automatically — why?
A few rules (glasses, head coverings, certain accessories) need a human judgment call that Complyshot can't reliably automate on-device. For those, Complyshot shows you the specific official rule and a plain self-check question instead of pretending to have checked it — see the "Double-check yourself" section on your results screen.
My photo failed a check — what do I do?
Tap Retake Photo and try again, adjusting for whatever failed — e.g. move closer/further for head height, find more even lighting for the shadow check, or use a plainer background. Each row on the results screen tells you exactly which rule didn't pass.
Does Complyshot guarantee my photo will be accepted?
No. Complyshot isn't affiliated with any government and can't guarantee acceptance — it checks your photo against each country's own published requirements as we've researched and encoded them, but always confirm with the official source before you submit. Each result screen links to the official page it was checked against.
Does Complyshot upload my photo anywhere?
No, never. Every check runs entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework, with no server involved at any step. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Is Complyshot really free? Is there a watermark or subscription?
Yes, really free — no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription, no watermark on your exported photo.
Do I need an internet connection to use Complyshot?
No. Capture, all compliance checks, cropping, and export run entirely on your iPhone, with no server involved at any step.
