Video caption questions
How do I add captions to an Instagram Reel or TikTok on iPhone?
Burn the captions into the video before you post it. Captionry makes captions from the speech on your iPhone, lets you choose where they sit and how they look, and saves the video to Photos with the captions in the picture, ready to post to Instagram or TikTok.
What to know
- Captionry saves an MP4 video in the same shape and size as yours: a vertical video stays vertical, and nothing is cropped.
- When you join clips, the first clip sets the shape of the whole video, so use clips filmed the same way.
- Caption Vertical Position, under Templates, moves every caption up or down at once. Drag one caption on the video to move only that one, or pinch it to resize it.
- Captions are made one line long and shrink to fit the width, so they normally stay inside a vertical video.

How to do it with Captionry
- Open Captionry, tap Choose Video and pick your video, or up to 10 clips, from Photos.
- Set Speech to the language spoken and tap Start (the first time, choose Keep on this iPhone or Use AI first). The captions are made on your iPhone.
- Tap Templates to pick a look, set Caption Vertical Position, and turn on Karaoke Highlight if you want each word to light up.
- Tap Export. In My Videos, touch and hold the video and tap Share to send it to another app, or post it from Photos.

Can I make one Reel from several clips?
Yes. Add up to 10 clips from Photos and trim each one. Captionry joins them into one video with one set of captions.
Can each word light up as it is spoken?
Yes. Under Templates, set Karaoke Highlight to Word. The highlight shows in the preview and in the exported video.
Is my video uploaded?
Not to make captions or to export. Both happen on your iPhone; if you allow AI polish, what Captionry sends includes the caption text with its timing, the languages and any caption rules you saved, plus the video’s length and a random installation code, to count your free minutes. It never sends the video or audio. A video is uploaded only if you create a share link for it in My Videos: a copy of up to 60 seconds, kept for 30 days, which you can delete any time.
